Michael Janson-Smith and Des Hulland. (Partners), formed Nova Contract Cleaners in 1968. Since then the company has enjoyed a steady growth and now employs in excess of 300 cleaning operatives and handles over 160 clients in Bournemouth. Southampton and Portsmouth areas. Nova was accredited with BS EN ISO9002 Quality Standards in 1993 and attained BS EN ISO9001: 2000 in February 2002. This comprehensive Quality Policy System ensures that Nova's clients continue to receive a high level of service.
Michael Janson-Smith (Partner)
Mr Janson-Smith’s previous experience in Sales, Finance and Administration has provided a firm foundation for Nova's success. Michael has travelled worldwide and spent many years working in America and he is now responsible for the overall company policy, finance and sales and marketing of the business.
Desmond Hulland (Partner)
Mr Hulland's background in contract cleaning has provided the knowledge and expertise essential to the smooth running of the operations department. Des directs the overall policy for the operational side of the company and is also responsible for the Quality System and Nova's computer network.
Susan Ferguson(General Manager)
Susan Ferguson joined Nova in 1993 as Office Manager with overall control of the company finances and payroll department. In 1995 Susan crossed over to Management of the Sales department and successfully tendered for many large blue chip organisations, having a good overall knowledge of the business she was promoted to General Manager in 1999. Nova's growth and expansion into all aspects of the commercial cleaning industry has meant that further skills were required and Susan qualified in Advanced Health and Safety with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health in 2004. Susan's knowledge and commitment to the company ensures that their clients receive the best attention at all times.
Tom Elliott (Special Projects Manager)
Tom Elliott took over the reigns of the Special Projects Division in 2004 but had close links to the company for many years. Tom has had 25 years in the cleaning industry and was Sales Manager for Victor Floor Machines for 20 years. Tom is a member of the British Institute of Cleaning Science and was the secretary of the Solent branch for 10 years. Tom's knowledge and vast experience has ensured the successful growth of the division and his extensive training in specialist cleaning tasks and Health and Safety has retained many of his blue chip clients.
Wayne Kelsall (Window Cleaning Manager)
Wayne commenced employment with Nova in 1992 as a window cleaner and was promoted to Manager in 1996. Qualified in Risk Assessment and Health & Safety and is also trained in hoist work and water-fed poling systems. Wayne is an experienced estimator and staff trainer and his team have remained with him for a number of years. Wayne’s hands on management style has guaranteed the retention of his clients and his attention to detail and quality workmanship has doubled his divisions client base over the last 5 years.
Marina Osborne (Office Manager)
Marina joined Nova in 1990 as Office Administrator but her versatile, all round ability subsequently led to promotion to Payroll Administrator and later to Office Manager with overall responsibility for the company's financial matters. In 2005 Marina qualified with the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and has also attended courses in General Business Management, Personnel, Customer Care and Internal Auditing. Her organisational and administration skills combined with a very good overall knowledge of the company guarantee the smooth running of Nova’s Head Office and its policies and procedures.
Carole Jones (Payroll Manager and Health and Safety Co-ordinator)
After 20 years experience in banking and finance with a major financial organisation, Carole joined Nova in 1997 to oversee the fortnightly payroll and all aspects of personnel. Due to the expansion, staff recruitment and with subsequent training in Health and Safety, Carole’s role now incorporates the co-ordination of the companies Health ad Safety policy. Carole’s understanding of the company and it's procedures ensures compliance with government legislation and continuous development of the company.
Leah–Danielle Carey (Sales Administrator and Quality Co-ordinator)
Leah is the newest member at Nova’s Head Office. Leah has an avid interest in poetry, having had 5 poems published herself with a well-known publishers. After leaving her studies in the art of contemporary dance, she began her career with a leading insurance company, going on to progress her knowledge of the mortgage field. Now with nearly 10 years experience in customer service and sales, she is looking forward to building on new skills she has already gained. Leah is responsible for the administration of the company’s ISO 9001 quality system and her excellent communication skills and attention to detail are vital in this role.
Julie Long (Operations Manager)
Julie came to Nova in June 2003 after running a large cleaning team in Northern Ireland. Julie brings an impressive level of management experience, which includes several years managing a very busy Health Club. Julie is responsible for the day-to-day running of her contracts and is trained in all aspects of Health and Safety combined with numerous management and task based training courses. Julie’s experience and enthusiasm for her work has enabled her to build excellent relationships with her clients.
Marconi Da Silva Rozendo (Contract Manager)
Marconi joined us in 2006 after extensive travelling through Europe from his home in Brazil. Marconi was in the parachute regiment and has worked as a security guard for a cash in transit van company. Since arriving in England he has studied English and has attained his Cambridge and LCCA certificate. Marconi’s management style and professionalism has enabled him to reach management status very quickly and his language skills are paramount to his ability to communicate with his staff.
Andy Chapman (Contract Manager)
Andy joined Nova in September 2008, making him the newest Contract Manager at Nova. Andy has over 9 years experience within the cleaning industry, having joined us after working for a well-known national cleaning company. Andy oversees the general running of over 30 of Nova’s biggest sites and has a keen interest in the Specialist Cleaning side of our company. Andy is currently undertaking training in Crime Scene and Trauma cleaning to enable him to assist our Special Projects Manager. Andy is fully trained in all legislation relating to his position.
